“Mytho-poetic music and dance ritual…”
— Matt Cosper, Queen City Nerve

Expressed through music, fine art, folklore, and mythological history, INFAELITH brings a cohesive manifesto to the world stage.

Flowing from creative collaboration between several disciplines, INFAELITH is a conceptual manifestation of the original narrative and musical work of singer-songwriter and folklorist, Mariah Van Kleef — interpreted and performed within an unforgettable, immersive art exhibition led by Victoria Byers.

The event’s debut was honored in collaboration with UNCC’s Department of Art and Art History, and features outstanding choreography by Janise Lenet-Rodriguez.

This project is also highly personal, as it reflects Mariah’s journey with Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser Syndrome (MRKH), a rare birth defect affecting 1 in 4,500 women worldwide. While the project themes touch on the ‘fatal flaws’ of her own story, the deeply relatable human dilemma regarding lovability - or the lack thereof - is universal. And so can be our resilience.

In collaboration with MRKH Connect, Infaelith raises awareness and donates resources to support women around the world.

“Transcendent...”
— Pat Moran, Queen City Nerve

Victoria Byers is a Charlotte-based interdisciplinary artist with a focus in Alternative Process Photography, Fibers and Installation work. Byers is a member of the adjunct faculty of the College of Arts and Architecture at UNCC, a previous Light Factory grant recipient and an international art educator and first aid arts administrator, instilling art-making methods in others to be used as a means to self-regulate and to process trauma. In addition to her fine art career, Byers currently works as an Art Director in Charlotte, providing access to the diverse skills of interdisciplinary artists to performing artists through “The House”, an in-house art and creative direction collaborative effort.

Byers’s work often explores and challenges the traditional framework of the photographic image, printing on unconventional materials with the goal of creating a more immersive experience for the viewer by pursuing a deep connection to the meaning of an image, allowing it to spread across disciplines.

Byers’s work on INFAELITH began when, after listening to the released works of Mariah Van Kleef, Byers was inspired to create.

Janise Lenet Rodriguez is a Dominican artist, choreographer, dancer, and instructor whose work reflects a deep embodiment of her culture and life experiences. She is dedicated to creating welcoming spaces where movement becomes a pathway to ancestry, community, and self-discovery. Her relationship with Infaelith spans two previous iterations, beginning when she heard an unreleased track performed live. She felt an immediate, intuitive pull to set movement to it. Janise has since served as the choreographer for “Siren’s Raid”. Returning to the production for this current iteration, she has expanded her choreographic role from that single track to multiple tracks, embedding comprehensive dance elements across three additional songs to deepen the kinetic language.
